Sugar River Llama yarns are fine, soft, and work well for items worn next to the skin. Guard hair has been removed, so there is no prickle. I use #5 and #6 needles for the body of the item, smaller for ribbing, sometimes even a #4, for more tightly knit items. These are wonderful to work with and to wear! When you wear an item knit from these yarns, people ask to touch or to feel it. Prepare to be fondled! I use less than one skein for caps - only 2 or 3 ounces; one or two skeins for a scarf, depending on length; and 8 - 10 skeins for sweaters - but, I work mostly in complex cables. The fleeces for yarns were raised right here at Sugar River Llamas, Lyndon Station, WI; we excel not only in quality llamas, but quality fleeces, which make quality yarns. All yarns are commercially processed at Georgia Mountain Fibers, GA, or Argyle Fiber Mill, Argyle, WI. These yarns would retail for $8/ounce, if sold through Georgia Mountain. All these yarns are natural colors, right from the llamas - no dye, no fading. All these yarns are hand washable.

The North Country Llama Pool yarns are great for outer wear - hats, caps, scarves, mittens, and sweaters. I recommend a #8 or #9 needle. One skein is enough for a cap; 2 for a long scarf; six for the average woman's sweater. Some wonderful shawls have been done in #15 - #19 needles. The fleece for all these yarns were raised on Wisconsin or Minnesota llamas, and hand skirted by their owners, before being commercially processed by a mill in Taos, New Mexico.
